I am a fine art photographer working in the greater Washington, DC area.

I began my photographic “career” during undergraduate school in the ‘70s.  Like most of us who fell in love with the medium, I suspect, the magic of an image appearing under the safelight was captivating.  I mastered enough of the traditional darkroom processes to make satisfactory prints and to keep me engaged.  Also formative was a course in the History of Photography I took from Beaumont Newhall at the University of New Mexico right after he left the directorship of Eastman House.  Newhall revealed a world beyond my nascent idea of photography as pretty pictures to look more deeply into the artistic expression photographic images are capable of.  It is a lesson I have never forgotten.

I gradually left photography behind as other pursuits took precedence.  But in 2004, in the wake of a friend’s terminal diagnosis that left me wondering if what I had accomplished in my life was enough, I came back to photography to satisfy a need for artistic expression I could no longer put aside.  The digital revolution gave me more tools and more control than I had ever experienced with traditional materials.  Theyears since have been an amazingly life-enriching journey.

I am currently a member of Multiple Exposures Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA where I am also an Associate Artist.  Multiple Exposures is a collective of 15 talented photographers and I am truly honored to be part of the group.
